Residents urged to be vigilant following spate of thefts from vehicles in Ellesmere Port

Officers are warning residents in Ellesmere Port to remain vigilant and ensure their cars are secure following a recent spate of thefts from vehicles in the town.

Over the last week, officers have seen a rise in thefts from vehicles across the Ellesmere Port area and are asking residents make sure their property is sufficiently secured.

According to recent reports, unknown offenders have been targeting vehicles outside of residential properties and taking items from inside.

Detectives have been conducting several enquiries and patrols have been stepped up in the local area.

Detective Constable Stuart Wood of Proactive CID West said:

“We are aware of an increase in reports of thefts from cars across Ellesmere Port and I want to be clear that we are doing everything in our power to locate those responsible and bring them to justice.

“I know that these incidents will cause some concern in the local area but we are will use all the tools at our disposal to crackdown on this crime.

“While we continue with our enquiries, I would urge residents to ensure that they review security measures and ensure that their vehicles are properly secured in order to make it even more difficult for any offenders to strike.”

Key advice being issued to homeowners:

  • Think about installing CCTV around your property.
  • Lighting is a good deterrent and is recommended at doors and on garages as it makes it safer for you when coming and going after dark.
  • Lock everything away securely – ensure any items left inside vehicles are secured out of sight in gloveboxes or car boots.
  • Consider an accredited burglar alarm system with audible alarm boxes mounted high at the front and rear of your home. Two visible audible alarm boxes are better than one.
