Chester’s iconic Santa Dash lit up the city once again over the weekend as more than 2,500 festive dashers, the highest number in the event’s history, came together to run, dash and jog stroll the much-loved route in support of The Countess Charity and The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
This year’s Dash featured an extended route, with participants setting off from Handbridge before crossing the historic Dee Bridge, offering spectacular views of the River Dee as the sea of red and white Santa suits moved through the city. Dashers continued past many of Chester’s most treasured landmarks including The Groves, the Amphitheatre, the Eastgate Clock and Chester Cathedral, creating a joyful and unmistakably festive atmosphere throughout the morning.
The event received generous support from local sponsors Aaron & Partners, Planaterra and Flat Earth, whose involvement helps ensure that the Santa Dash remains a key part of Chester’s festive season and a vital fundraiser for local care services.
Last year’s proceeds supported the Countess Charity’s Retinal Scanner Appeal and funded essential services at the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. This year, all money raised will support the Countess Charity’s Extra Mile Appeal, which will provide much needed additional equipment for ward areas. The new equipment will reduce the need for clinical teams to share items such as bladder scanners, ECG machines and ultrasound machines. The Hospice of the Good Shepherd provides free palliative care to residents of Cheshire West, Chester and Deeside, their Santa Dash proceeds will go towards continuing the care that they provide to our community.
Sophie Fitzgerald, Corporate & Events Fundraiser said:
“The funds raised will have a great impact on both charities, and we extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed. We are especially grateful to our dedicated volunteers, Dee Radio, DJ Ian Gibbons, and the Karumba Band for bringing such a vibrant, festive spirit to the event.”
