A charity operating in Wirral and West Cheshire is inviting the public to come along to its Remembrance Day service this November, in a historic local village.
For the third year running, Autism Together is organising a service to commemorate those members of the armed forces who died serving their country. The event will take place in Bromborough Pool, outside the village’s former church building on York Street.
The Grade-II listed St Matthew's Church was closed for worship in 2007 and the building is now used to provide music sessions for autistic adults accessing the charity’s services.
The Remembrance Service, which is free for the public to attend, will be led by two Autism Together service managers, Steve Davis, who previously served in the armed forces, and Dean Ravera.
The event is taking place on Wednesday, 11th November, starting promptly at 10.45am. The service will be conducted outside the church entrance, before the village’s war memorial, which has been refurbished by the charity.
At 11am there will be a two-minute silence, followed by a rendition of ‘The Last Post’ and a laying of wreaths.
Angie Kemp, CEO of Autism Together, said:
“We would like to welcome people from across Wirral to join us for this special Remembrance Day service, as we pay tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who have served in our armed forces.
“The people we support will also be at the heart of the occasion, making handmade poppies to decorate the area around the service.
“We hope as many people as possible will join us on the morning of the 11th, to reflect, remember, and pay respects together.”
Visitors can make use of Autism Together’s free car park in the village, located next door to its Bromborough Pool Café & Shop, at The Green, Bromborough Pool, CH62 4TT. The Café also has toilet facilities and refreshments for sale, with a 20% discount for veterans visiting on Remembrance Day.
Following the Remembrance Service, Autism Together moves into the busy pre-Christmas period, with December events including a chance for children to enjoy Breakfast With Santa in Bromborough Pool Café.
