North Wales MP Praises Local Support for Welsh Blood Service

Mark Tami MP has praised local support for the Welsh Blood Service after people who are able to have rallied to give blood to help our health service.

The Welsh Government has classified travelling to give blood as essential travel, and Alyn and Deeside MP Mark Tami shared a post on behalf of Welsh Blood Service on his social media channels. The post asked for volunteers who are safely able to give blood to travel to donation sessions in Connah’s Quay this week. At the time of writing, Mr Tami’s post has been shared 66 times between Facebook and Twitter.

“While we’re all adjusting to life under the measures being taken to stop the spread of Covid-19, it’s so heartwarming to see people stepping up to help when it is safe to do so,” said Mr Tami.

“The Welsh Blood Service have contacted me to say that the response has been fantastic, and I’m pleased to have been able to play my part in that.

“Their booking system has filled more appointments than they would normally expect to see as a result, but they still want to fill a few more. I’d urge anyone who is able to do so to attend on Wednesday or Thursday, as sadly our hospitals are likely to need blood supplies during this pandemic.”

The blood donation sessions are at Connah’s Quay Civic Hall on Wednesday, March 25, 10am-12.15pm and 1.45-4.15pm, and Thursday, March 26, 2-4pm and 5.30-7.30pm. Bookings can be made by phoning 0800 252266 or online at https://wbs.wales/GoingTheExtraMile.

Mr Tami and his office have been busy dealing with a much-increased caseload as constituents become affected by and concerned about the many implications of the Covid 19 pandemic and measures such as school closures and social distancing.

He added: “My small team and I are working as hard as we can to get to each and every case as fast as we can. Cases are being prioritised in terms of urgency, and template campaign emails will experience a delay in being replied to.

“Email is the best way to contact me right now at tamim@parliament.uk and please include a short description of your issue with your full address and phone number. If you do not have access to email, or if your situation is an emergency, please call 01244 836350.

“Thank you for your understanding and I would like to offer my best wishes to all of you at this challenging time.
