Chester-based charity Children Today has launched its ‘Lockdown Locks’ challenge to encourage people to take on their own haircut at home whilst supporting children in need.
Life in lockdown has meant a lot of compromising and improvising for us all. Even though it seems like the world has been put on pause, one thing that hasn’t been put on hold is hair growth.
With hairdressers and barbers closed across the country, we’ve had no choice but to embrace the scissors and electric razors and take things into our own hands, literally.
With this in mind, Chester-based charity Children Today has launched its ‘Lockdown Locks’ challenge to encourage people to take on their own haircut at home whilst supporting children in need.
Whether that’s a quick trim of your fringe, cutting the kids’ hair or even going for a dramatic dye job, the challenge suggests you then donate the money you’d usually pay at the hairdressers to the children’s charity. These funds will then help Children Today continue to reduce isolation in vulnerable children and young people in these difficult times.
Children Today is launching this challenge in response to a dramatic increase in application enquiries for life-changing pieces of adapted equipment like trikes, electric wheelchairs and walking aids, to name a few. With many vulnerable families having to keep shielding and the lack of the right equipment at home, many children need these life-changing grants more than ever before.
This equipment, which is often costly, can help these children feel less isolated, to embrace more independence and to enjoy the best possible quality of life with their loved ones.
By donating and taking part in the ‘Lockdown Locks’ challenge you can help children and young people with disabilities around the UK, relish in new activities and opportunities with their family.
Founder of Children Today, Hugh McCaw, says: “Due to the Coronavirus pandemic our small charity has seen a dramatic increase in applications for life-changing pieces of equipment for vulnerable children and young people. Many of these young people are facing extensive periods of isolation due to not having access to the right equipment to help them.
“This adapted equipment, like specialised trikes, has a monumental impact on the lives of the individuals we support allowing a child to enjoy activities or a lifestyle they may never get to otherwise. An experience like being able to take part in a family bike ride for the first time can truly be life-changing. Not only could this enable a severely disabled child to have physical exercise, but this equipment can help the mental and emotional wellbeing of the whole family.
“Our Lockdown Locks challenge is a simple and fun activity which can be done from home. We hope this, with the support of the people of Chester, will make a big impact and help us continue changing lives for the better.”
