Appeal for witnesses and footage following fatal collision on the M56

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a fatal collision on the M56 in Cheshire.

At around 12.50am today, Monday 31st August, police were called to reports of a collision on the on the M56 eastbound between junctions 12 (Runcorn) and 14 (Hapsford).

Police and paramedics attended the scene and found that there had between a collision between a pedestrian and three cars, a black Dacia Duster, a red Kia Niro and a black Ford Focus.

Sadly, despite the best efforts of all those involved the pedestrian, believed to be a 38-year-old man from Golborne, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and they are being supported by specialist officers.

The M56 eastbound was closed while officers dealt with the collision, it reopened at around 9.15am.

Detective Sergeant Russ Sime, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.

“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision are ongoing and as part of the investigation we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or believes they may have seen the pedestrian on the motorway prior to the collision, to get in touch.

“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid our investigation."
