Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
On a weekend where cup football took centre stage, the standout performance came from Winsford Vets. They tore up the script to dump out Doug Johnson holders Mersey Royal Vets in a nine-goal thriller. Winsford initially stormed into a 4–1 lead thanks to doubles from Steve Warburton and Liam Goulding. However, last season’s quadruple winners showed their pedigree by clawing back to 4–4 through a Chrissy Bowe hat-trick and a Stuey Jones effort. Sensing a comeback victory, the holders piled on the pressure, only for Winsford to strike a decisive blow in the last minute, hitting Royal on the counter-attack, Steve Warburton was the hero compling his hat-trick to snatch a dramatic winner and seal a 5–4 victory.
The long trip to Frodsham Vets proved no obstacle for Sefton Vets, who dominated in an 8-1 rout. Jamie Hay was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick, while Lee Reid, Karl Bergvist, and Neil McQueen all found the net to complete the demolition.
Tarvin Athletic Vets were equally ruthless on their travels, dispatching Parkfield Vets 5-1. David Taylor led the charge with a brace, supported by goals from Jonathan Lowe and Sean Taylor, plus an unfortunate own goal, while Ian Mitchell claimed the lone consolation for the hosts.
Friday night’s cup action was a tighter affair as Birkenhead Vets edged past Chester Nomads Vets with a narrow 2-1 victory. Goals from Mike New and Craig Griffiths proved enough to see them through, despite Nomads netting a consolation goal from Dan Delgado.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division Two, Neston Nomads Vets played out a 3-3 thriller against Ellesmere Port Red Lions. Nomads’ goals were countered by Red Lions spearheaded by a Matty Fowler double and a strike from Gray Davidson.
The Cayzer Shield provided further goalmouth drama as FC Farndon hit Frodsham Park for seven. Andy Walker and Leo Davenport both bagged doubles in a commanding display, with Lee Parry and Callum Parry also adding to the tally. Matt Hayes offered the only response for Frodsham. Meanwhile, Great Sutton Reserves emerged victorious in a five-goal battle against Clarence, as John Skipsey, Cole Marl, and Joe Tittle did the damage to offset goals from Joel Hunter and Ben Ryan.
League action was sparse but significant, with Whitegate United and Blacon Youth Club sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Queensferry Premier Division. Jack Lanceley’s effort for Whitegate was cancelled out by Blacon’s Ellis Moore.
The Olympic Trophies Championship saw two identical 4-2 scorelines reshape the top of the table. Higher Bebington Kelma Reserves seized their opportunity with the leaders in cup action, climbing to the summit after defeating Chester Nomads 4th. Tyler Abram was the hero of the hour with a hat-trick, supported by Chris Corkhill, while Reece Ludlow and Joe Ritsen replied for the Nomads. Elsewhere, M.U.C United moved into third place with a 4-2 win over Elton JFC, courtesy of an Adam Hagger brace and strikes from Sherali Muhammed and Miracle Obi, while Dan Nixon and Ad Hall were on target for Elton.
