The 2025-26 Chester & Wirral Football League campaign got underway on Saturday in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division new entrants Blacon Youth Club Reserves and Newton Athletic making strong early statements.
Newton Athletic edged past Chester Nomads III in a lively 3-2 encounter. Goals from Ben Woodman, Tom Royle, and Geraint Eunson secured the win for Newton, while Trey Lattie and John Platten were on target for Nomads in reply.
Blacon Youth Club Reserves also got off to a flying start, seeing off Hoole Rovers 2-0 courtesy of strikes from Ellis Moore and Jackson Abraham.
Whitegate began their season in style with a convincing 3-0 win away at Upton JFC Reserves. Goals from Kyle Stubbs, Adam Pickering, and Oakley Maddocks ensured a comfortable afternoon for the visitors.
Elsewhere, Cestrian Alex and Handbridge shared the spoils in a competitive 2-2 draw. Chris Hibbert and Ollie Edwards found the net for Cestrian, while Rob Owen and Ryan Bradley scored for Handbridge.
The CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship Division saw 19 goals scored across four fixtures, with Great Sutton Reserves making a statement via a commanding 7-0 away win at Chester Nomads Reserves. Joe Tittle led the charge with a hat trick, supported by goals from Lewis Ward, Ste Teale, Jordan McTeer, and Joe Thomson.
In a clash of the newcomers, Higher Bebington Kelma Reserves got the better of Elton JFC with an impressive 4-2 victory. Tyler Abram struck twice, with Jack Bradley and Shea Edge also on the scoresheet. Dominic Jones and Callum Widowson netted consolations for Elton.
Clarence FC (formerly Fender) edged out newcomers Poulton Vics FC 2-1 in an entertaining affair. An early own goal gave Clarence the lead, before Tom Parker levelled for Vics. However, a superb 25-yard strike from Charlie Gouldson restored Clarence’s advantage midway through the second half, and they held firm to claim the win.
Sutton Rangers Reserves also got off the mark with a 2-1 win over M.U.C. United. Jamil Hussein scored for the visitors, but a brace from Dan Smith proved decisive for Sutton.
The Tarvin Precision Vets Division One kicks off this Friday evening, with reigning champions Mersey Royal Vets facing Higher Bebington Kelma Vets at Shaftesbury’s Astro (7pm kick-off). Elsewhere, Capenhurst Vets will host Hooton Vets at Capenhurst Sports Club, also kicking off at 7pm.
Division Two action begins on Saturday, as Hartford Vets welcome Ellesmere Port Red Lions to Hartford High 3G (2pm kick-off), and Neston Nomads Vets host West Kirby Vets at Ness Park, also kicking off at 2pm.
