Appeal for information following a collision in Chester

Police are appealing for information following a fail to stop collision involving an electric scooter (e-scooter) in Chester.

At 5.56pm on Sunday 21 August, police were called to reports that an e-scooter had collided with a pedestrian on Hoole Lane, Broughton.    

The rider of the e-scooter fled the scene soon after the collision, leaving the pedestrian, an 50-year-old man, with minor head injuries.

The man was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital and has since been discharged. 

An investigation into the incident is underway and officers are appealing to anyone who has information, CCTV, or dash cam footage to get in touch.

Sergeant Russell Sime of the Roads Policing Investigations unit said: “This incident has left the victim understandably shaken and we are committed to doing all that we can to identify the person responsible.

“We have a number of enquiries underway and part of our investigation we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they may have witnessed the collision to contact us.

“The same goes for anyone with any CCTV or dashcam footage that may be relevant to our investigation.”

Detective Chief Inspector Michael Ankers added: “I would like to take this as an opportunity to remind all road users about the laws surrounding e-scooters. 

“While there is a limited trial involving Ginger scooters in Chester city centre, it remains illegal to use a private e-scooters on any roads throughout the UK.

“E-scooters can only be used on private land, and anyone caught riding an e-scooter illegal could face a hefty fine and a number of penalty points on their driving licence.”
