Officers in Chester have carried out almost one hundred stop searches in the city, in the past few weeks, thanks to the keen noses of its four-legged partners.
Passive drug dog operations have been carried out in Chester city centre and Chester Railway Station across the last three weekends in the run-up to Christmas.
Officers have been working with both the British Transport Police and Cheshire Police’s Special Constabulary to target those carrying and supplying drugs, while providing a highly visible policing presence across Chester.
The results so far include:
- 93 stop searches
- 11 arrests, including for possession with intent to supply drugs, possession of knives, assault and people who were wanted on warrant
- 22 Community Resolutions issued
- Two summons issued
- One Youth Justice Services referral
Inspector James Wilson said:
“Over the last three weekends passive drug dog operations have been carried out in Chester City Centre and outside Chester Railway Station which have achieved some excellent results.
“These operations provided a visible presence which sends a clear message that the use of drugs will not be tolerated in Chester and has resulted in the detection of several offences, removing drugs, weapons and wanted people off the streets.
“We regularly carry out operations such as this to keep our communities safe and ensure they remain a hostile place for criminals.”
