Local MP Justin Madders was proud to see the Ellesmere Port-made Vauxhall Combo-e electric van being showcased at the inaugural Manchester Motor Show.
Mr Madders, whose Ellesmere Port & Bromborough constituency includes the Stellantis automotive factory, visited the event at Manchester Central Convention Complex.
More than 1,000 skilled workers make the small, compact electric vans at the all-electric Ellesmere Port plant for brands including Citroën, Peugeot and Fiat as well as Vauxhall.
A £50 million investment will see mid-sized electric vans, also displayed in Manchester, made at the factory by 2027.
Mr Madders, who met Stellantis UK Group managing director Eurig Druce and members of the local workforce, said:
“I was proud to see an Ellesmere Port-built electric van taking centre stage at the motor show and to meet Eurig and workers directly involved in producing these vehicles.
“The investment being made at the plant shows the long-term importance of Ellesmere Port to the UK automotive industry. It is safeguarding jobs locally while also helping to move the sector towards cleaner, more sustainable transport.
“I will continue to support the factory and my constituents who work there as we build a greener future for everyone.”
Mr Madders had the opportunity to sit in the driver’s seat of the Vauxhall Combo-e electric van, which was decked out in livery showcasing Stellantis being announced as the automotive sponsorship partner to Team GB ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Eurig Druce, group managing director, Stellantis UK, commented:
"I was very pleased to welcome Justin Madders to our Stellantis National Business Meeting and Manchester Motor Show 2026 last week.
“It was great to showcase all our brands and the breadth and diversity of our activities and products, in particular, the Vauxhall Combo-e, our all-electric van manufactured in his constituency at Ellesmere Port and share our newly-announced Team GB partnership with him.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss our key priorities and current challenges, and for him to meet with the wider team and Ellesmere Port employees. We all appreciate the support and time taken by him to meet with us."
The MP was also given a tour around the whole motor show, where Stellantis exhibited its range, including Alfa Romeo, Citroën, Fiat, Peugeot, Jeep and Leapmotor. There were also plenty of fun activities, with Mr Madders taking part in golf and tennis challenges, a rubber duck racing game and a virtual reality bungee experience.
