Eastgate Square has completed a significant programme of centre-wide improvements, reinvigorating its central atrium, The Square, and enhancing the overall visitor experience in the heart of Chester.
The works, part of a long-held ambition to reposition the centre as a modern, welcoming destination, focus on comfort, dwell time and atmosphere.
At the centre of the transformation is The Square, now reimagined with extensive new seating, warm timber cladding, contemporary lighting and a large-scale digital screen. The refreshed space also includes a new planting scheme designed to soften the environment and create a more relaxed feel.
The changes build on the momentum of Eastgate Square’s recent renaming and follow the successful opening of H beauty, which has drawn significant footfall and new energy into the centre. The improvements also complement seasonal installations such as the much-photographed pink heart display in St. Michael’s Arcade, reinforcing Eastgate Square’s growing identity as a place for shared moments.
Gary Martin, Director at Martin Property Group, said:
“This is a significant step in the ongoing evolution of Eastgate Square. Our investment reflects a long-term commitment to enhancing the quality of the environment and strengthening the centre’s position within Chester’s retail landscape. By improving the overall experience, from seating and lighting to digital infrastructure, we are creating a destination where customers choose to spend more time, and where premium retailers see long-term value.”
Lisa Rogers, Centre Manager at Eastgate Square, added:
“It’s been fantastic to hear the feedback from our shoppers and community. People have told us the space feels warmer, more inviting and somewhere they can relax between shops. Eastgate Square has always been part of Chester’s story, and these improvements help us shape its next chapter, creating a centre that feels comfortable, contemporary and full of life.”
The new large-scale screen in The Square will be used to showcase centre events, seasonal campaigns and retailer activity, further enhancing the sense of energy and occasion within the space. The programme marks another milestone in Eastgate Square’s repositioning following its renaming in November 2025, signalling a confident future focused on quality, experience and long-term investment.
