A £1.5 million package of improvements to public toilets, town centres and sports facilities has been approved by Flintshire County Council’s cabinet.
The funding, secured through the UK Government’s Pride in Place Impact Fund (PIPIF), will deliver vital upgrades to valued community facilities while helping to revitalise high streets across the county.
Among the projects set to benefit are the refurbishments of the public toilets in Talacre, Holywell and Mold. The estimated £240,000 investment will pave the way for the facilities to be transferred to the management of their respective town and community councils.
Meanwhile the refurbishment of the sports pitch at Mold Alun School will be allocated £150,000, to improve the facility and support increased community use.
In Buckley, £400,000 will be invested to improve the appearance and function of the town centre, as part of the delivery of the town’s Place Making Plan.
High street businesses in all towns across Flintshire will also benefit from a new £460,000 shop frontage improvement scheme. This will support businesses to improve the appearance and function of their properties and to bring empty town centre units back into use.
The last £250,000 will remain unallocated until final costs are known for each scheme. Any remaining balance will then be directed to other eligible projects.
The Pride in Place Impact Fund, announced in the 2025 Spending Review by UK Government, aims to ‘deliver visible improvements to high streets and improve places and spaces of community value’.
Councillor Chris Dolphin, Cabinet Member for Environment, Regeneration, Countryside and Tourism, said:
“This is a significant investment in the everyday places that matter most to our communities.
“From protecting essential public conveniences, to improving our town centres and sports facilities, this funding will make a real difference.
“By working with our town and community councils and supporting local traders, we’re helping to ensure our high streets and community spaces remain welcoming and accessible.”
