Chester to Commemorate the 86th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain

Residents and visitors are invited to line the streets of Chester on Saturday 13th September to support local young people and remember those who gave their lives during the Battle of Britain.

The annual Battle of Britain Parade will take place in Chester City Centre from 2.30pm, followed by a Service of Commemoration at Chester Cathedral at 3.00pm.

The parade will feature members of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets from across the region, who will march through the city to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the pilots and aircrew who defended Britain during the summer and autumn of 1940.

The Battle of Britain remains one of the most significant moments in British history. The courage and determination of the Royal Air Force helped secure a vital victory during the Second World War and prevented an invasion of Britain. The service and parade provide an opportunity for the community to come together to remember those who lost their lives and those who served during this pivotal period in our nation's history.

Chester has a long and proud military heritage and has maintained strong links with the Armed Forces for generations. As a historic garrison city, Chester continues to recognise and support the contribution made by serving personnel, veterans, cadets and military organisations.

The event will also celebrate the role of today's cadet forces, who continue to inspire young people through service, teamwork, leadership and community involvement.

Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor Margaret Parker said:

"The Battle of Britain was a defining moment in our history, and it is important that we continue to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who served and those who never returned home. I would encourage residents and visitors to come along and support our Air Cadets, who represent the very best of our young people. Their commitment, enthusiasm and community spirit are a credit to our city and the wider region. Chester has a proud military heritage and events such as this allow us to honour the past while recognising the contribution that today's Armed Forces, veterans and cadets continue to make to our communities."

Members of the public are warmly invited to attend both the parade and the Cathedral service. Road closures will be in place to facilitate the parade route.
