Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
Friday night’s action in the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship set the tone for a busy weekend, with Elton JFC claiming a 2-0 victory away at Frodsham JFC. Dom Jones opened the scoring before Harry Eardley sealed the points.
On Saturday, Newton Athletic strengthened their grip on top spot in the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division with a seven-goal thriller away at Upton JFC Reserves. A brace from Dan Christian proved decisive for the visitors, while Upton’s cause was not helped by two own goals. Aaron Rowland, Tom Wynne Jones and Max Oldfield were all on target for the hosts, but Newton held firm to move three points clear at the summit as they now lead Whitegate by three points.
Cestrian Alex enjoyed a morale-boosting afternoon as they swept Hoole Rovers aside 6-1. Olly Edwards and Josh Camy both helped themselves to hat-tricks in a dominant display.
Elsewhere in the Olympic Trophies Championship, Sutton Rangers Reserves and FC Farndon shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Lee Parry continued his fine form in front of goal, striking twice for Farndon.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division Three, goals were at a premium. Tarvin Vets and Parkfield Vets drew 1-1, with Sean Taylor’s effort cancelled out by Sean Haley, elsewhere Upton Vets and Frodsham Park Vets battled to a goalless stalemate.
If Division Three lacked fireworks, Divisions Four and Five more than compensated. Crossway Vets were in ruthless mood as they thrashed Dee Rangers Vets 8-2. Kevin Leech stole the show with six goals, with Dave Megson and Phil Hill also on the scoresheet. Ryan Williams grabbed one of Dee Rangers’ replies alongside an own goal.
West Kirby Vets and Wirral Masters Vets had to settle for a 1-1 draw, Neil Davies striking for West Kirby before Craig Bunnell levelled matters.
Division Five produced 30 goals across four matches. Port Sunlight Vets climbed to the top of the table, replacing long-time leaders Cheshire Vikings Vets (no game), after a commanding 5-0 win over Great Sutton Vets. Mark Reid struck twice, with Joe Atkins, Andy Crilly and Chris Cooper adding further goals.
Hoole Wanderers Vets had Stephen Donoghue and Andy Evans each netting four times, with Nodz Noden also contributing in a 9-4 victory over FC Vaults.
Saughall Vets claimed a 3-1 victory at St Annes courtesy of a brace from Chris Jones and a further effort by Dan Coleman.
In another high-scoring encounter, Frodsham JFC Reserves were held to a 4-4 draw by Tarporley Vets. Will Beales scored all four of Frodsham’s goals, but a hat-trick from Walter Yates and a strike from Stephen Roberts ensured Tarporley earned a share of the spoils.
