The organisers of the Cheshire Woman of the Year Awards have marked this year’s International Women’s Day by celebrating four decades of local female role models and supporting children’s charities including the NSPCC.
For 40 years, Cheshire Woman Awards has proudly honoured extraordinary women who have made a remarkable difference in their communities, workplaces, and charities. Nominees are put forward by someone who recognises their contribution, a deeply personal and confidential approach which organisers believe makes the honour even more meaningful.
Nominations for this year’s ceremony have closed, and chair of the Cheshire Woman Awards committee, Alison Blackler, said the competition was tougher than ever in 2026. However, every name on the list was a positive step towards celebrating women in the region.
Alison said:
“These awards were founded on the belief that women should lift each other up, and we are delighted to shine a light on those whose impact deserves recognition for the fortieth year.
“Our committee are a group of passionate women and we are determined to showcase incredible women doing incredible things across Cheshire. As part of International Women’s Day, we are proud to reflect on the amazing journey of the awards, the women we have celebrated over the past 40 years, and the powerful network of support that continues to grow year after year.”
Over the years, the event has raised more than £300,000 for children’s charities through sponsorship. In recent years, all funds raised have gone directly to the NSPCC to support children and families in Cheshire and Wirral.
Last year’s winner was Esther Ghey whose response to the murder of her daughter Brianna led to her founding of Peace and Mind UK which works with schools, government, and media to promote mindfulness and safer digital spaces.
Over four decades, hundreds of women have been recognised by the celebrations, with each taking their award back to their charity, workplace or community as a symbol of appreciation and pride.
Alison said:
“This year’s celebration will be held in June at Chester Racecourse and sponsored by many local female-led businesses, including Sinclair Law, Wilmslow, Sunlight Dental Practice, Wirral, Big Creative Events and Daisy’s Pawsome Pals Pet Services in Runcorn.
“We wanted to take this International Women’s Day to wish all this year’s nominees the very best of luck and extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who continues to support, celebrate and champion women across Cheshire.”
