A dominant display from Chester FC earned all three points over King’s Lynn Town, on the final day of the regular National League North season.
Kurt Willoughby opened the scoring in the early stages of the contest with a powerful finish that beat Paul Jones in the home goal.
A header from Jack Bainbridge and a clever strike from Dylan Mottley-Henry made the points safe, while other results confirmed a home play-off tie against Buxton at the Deva on Wednesday evening.
Calum McIntyre’s side stunned their opponents early on with a positive start that led to a brilliant finish from Willoughby.
The number nine latched on to an incisive pass from Dan Mooney before he slotted past Paul Jones in expert fashion, a fantastic start to the final day of the Seals’ regular season.
Chester’s momentum continued and the lead was doubled just before the half-hour mark with another slick move.
Dylan Mottley-Henry twisted and turned down the left wing and delivered a pin-point cross which found Jack Bainbridge at the back post.
It was simple finish for Bainbridge that capped of a faultless opening 30 minutes.
The Linnets attempted to hit back in immediate fashion, but Jonny Margetts miscued his effort from close-range and the ball rolled wide.
Ross Crane tested debutant Alex Brown after he found space in the box but his low shot was comfortable for the goalkeeper.
The afternoon got even better for the Seals on the stroke of half-time as an inviting ball from Jack Lambert found Mottley-Henry who added to his early assist with a clever finish that beat Jones and rolled into the bottom corner.
Willoughby almost bagged his second after the break but he fired just over after more positive work from Mottley-Henry, who was a constant threat to the home back line throughout the contest.
Josh Hmami almost set up a golden chance for Margetts but the ball bobbled and the number ten failed to connect.
The hosts’ best chance came for Kyle McFadden who sent a powerful header towards the top corner but it was deflected behind for a corner off the head of Matty Warburton.
McFadden was a threat from corners and he connected again just a few minutes later but the effort looped into Brown’s hands.
The remaining minutes were controlled in comfortable fashion by the Seals who held out for a memorable final day victory in Norfolk.
