We'd LOVE to send YOU or someone you know a letter

Love Letters to the Town is a special project, by and with a group of local young writers who have something hopeful to share with the people of Ellesmere Port and the world.

We can often learn wisdom from children and young people if we give them space to express their ideas and find ways to listen. Not least at times of crisis. And that’s why the company behind the initiative, Action Transport Theatre, are looking for people who would like to receive a message. Is that you? Or can you think of someone that would love a letter?

Action Transport Theatre intends that the initiative will create individual bridges between young writers and local communities. The letters will be messages of hope and positivity, and the aim is to provide something of value for the recipients to think about for those needing to feel optimistic about the future.

Experimental in its approach to writing, theatre and performance - Action Transport Theatre have performed on buses, in disused buildings and even people’s houses in the past! All with children and young people’s voices at its heart.

For #LoveLettersToTheTown they also hope this summer they can bring a bit of magic to people in their homes, including having the young people reading the letters to recipients; either in front rooms as residents watch through their window or even at a safe distance in gardens to hear what our young writers have to say. 

All the selected recipients will be left with a copy of the letter, a balloon and the opportunity to reply themselves by letter or postcard. The project is also being made into a short film by a local filmmaker for release later in the year.

In addition to letters to individuals in the town, the young writers will also be writing to the town itself, outlining their thoughts and feelings about place and community and how we can all look towards a bright future.

Action Transport Theatre are undergoing a significant capital project which will result in the transformation of locally listed Whitby Hall into a vibrant and welcoming community arts space in Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port.

The company want people to know about this continuing, exciting and ambitious project for a much loved, but run-down building and look forward to welcoming them when this new art space opens in the future. 

Love Letters to the Town is just one of many projects which local people can get involved with as  part of an outreach programme underpinning this development. They are also working on some ambitious and exciting ideas to work with families over the summer - including dance, walking trails and sculpture making around Whitby Park.
