Tributes paid on the passing of Councillor Myles Hogg

Cheshire West & Chester Council Conservative Group is saddened by the news that Councillor Myles Hogg, Ward Member for Willaston & Thornton, died peacefully on Wednesday 12th November 2025.

Cllr Hogg served the local area, including the Whitby area of Ellesmere Port, his home village of Willaston and wider community for several decades and has been one of the most familiar faces in political and affairs throughout this time.

Cllr Hogg was first elected to Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council in 1987 and was elected to the Cheshire West and Chester Council Shadow Authority in 2008 and has continued to represent Willaston and surrounding villages since then. 

Throughout his remarkable 38 years of public service Cllr Hogg held many roles including on the first Executive, on the Planning Committee and on the Cheshire Pension Fund Committee.  He also served as Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Sheriff of Chester. 

Paying tribute to Myles, Conservative Group Leader (Con, Farndon), Cllr Adrian Waddelove, said:

“For nearly 40 years Myles has served his local community in and around Willaston with distinction.

“A man of utmost dedication, Myles always had time for everyone and was on hand to help anyone who needed it. His desire to keep representing his residents was underlined as he carried on right until the end - and proved to be a welcome focus - even as his own medical condition worsened.

“Myles will be sorely missed by everyone involved in Cheshire West and Chester public life - his advice with years of knowledge and experience - will be incredibly difficult to replace.

My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.”

Commenting further, Deputy Group Leader, Cllr Simon Eardley (Con, Saughall & Mollington), said:

“It has been my privilege to know Myles for nearly 30 years and to call him a dear friend as well as the wisest possible source of advice and knowledge on so many aspects of being a councillor. As my immediate ward neighbour, we have shared many challenges and worked together to support residents on a variety of issues since my own election in 2019. I have valued immensely his counsel and support from planning matters to speeding traffic; the familiar issues that crossed our desks on a daily basis. I will miss his well-known Scottish humour, his anecdotes from a long career in public life and his many kindnesses.

“Myles served his home village of Willaston and the wider area with distinction continuously over the last 27 years and was a passionate advocate for the communities he had the privilege to serve. His contribution to public life also meant he had the opportunity to hold the significant offices of Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Sheriff of the City of Chester. As the current holder of the latter office, I was encouraged by Myles’ example to take on the role which I know meant a great deal to him. He will always be someone I will remember with immense fondness and as one of the very best examples of dedicated public service that I have had the honour to know.”

In a mark of respect, civic flags will be flown at half-mast and flowers placed in remembrance of Cllr Hogg.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
