TOP CHESTER CHORISTERS SET TO WELCOME VISITING CHOIR FOR FIRST CONCERT OF 2023

Rehearsals are in full swing as one of Chester's top choirs prepares to stage its first concert of 2023.

Following on from the success of its Christmas concert, Chester Male Voice Choir will stage a spring concert on Friday 28th April at 7.30pm. The concert, set to be held at St Columba's Church, Plas Newton in Chester will also feature Haydock Male Voice Choir which is celebrating its centenary this year.

Formed in the then mining village of Haydock back in 1923, Haydock Male Voice Choir has performed at venues throughout the UK as well as undertaking concert tours of Germany and The USA. Now in its 82nd Year, Chester Male Voice Choir belatedly marked its 80th Anniversary last year following the lifting of Covid restrictions with a celebratory gala concert in Chester Cathedral where they were joined by the award winning Foden's Brass Band. The choir is delighted to be joined by Haydock Male Voice Choir for the Spring Festival concert.

Speaking about the event, Blair Wilson, the Chair of Chester Male Voice Choir said "The choir is excited about hosting the concert and we look forward to performing some new pieces under the musical direction of our new Conductor Joe Mann. The choir are also delighted to be welcoming Haydock Male Voice Choir, who are celebrating their centenary year in 2023 which makes this concert all the more special. This is the chance to listen to two choirs performing a wide range of male voice pieces and both choirs look forward to welcoming everyone to this special concert."

During the evening a prize raffle will be held, with proceeds going to new Chester based Charity Kidsbank. Refreshments will also be available during the interval.

The Concert at St Coumba's Church marks the start of a busy few months for the Chester based choir which will see members travelling to Nidd Hall in Harrogate, performing at Manchester Cathedral and The Hospice of The Good Shepherd Summer Fayre charity event in addition to entertaining residents and holidaymakers alike with a concert at St John's Church in Llandudno.
