A local community theatre company is set to take to the stage at Theatr Clwyd with a fresh take on a classic Broadway and West End musical.
Chester and Wrexham based Tip Top Productions are set to stage a brand- new concert style production of the much-loved classic musical "Annie Get Your Gun" at the newly re-opened Theatr Moondance at Theatr Clwyd from Wednesday 3rd - Saturday 6th September at 7.30pm. There will also be a matinee performance at 2.30pm on Saturday 6th September.
Originally written in 1946 with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, "Annie Get Your Gun" tells the story of legendary sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her famous romance with fellow marksman Frank Butler. The Tony and Grammy award winning show has enjoyed numerous productions on Broadway and in the West End and was adapted for the sliver screen by legendary film studios MGM in 1950.
For this new production, the show's director Steve Davies has adapted the script to bring the sparkling wit and humour right up to date for today’s audiences, while retaining all the charm of the original. The show will be presented in a unique concert-style format, with a talented cast performing alongside an incredible 11-piece orchestra live on stage, under the direction of musical director Tim Jones. The production also features choreography by Rob Stevens.
Speaking about the show, Steve Davies said:
“Annie Get Your Gun is a true Broadway classic, it’s such a joy to bring it to life in a fresh way for 2025. This concert-style staging gives audiences a rare chance to experience the incredible score up close, with the cast and a live 11-piece orchestra sharing the stage.
Steve added:
“We’ve given the script a modern update while keeping everything people love about this iconic show. The humour, the heart, and those unforgettable songs are all still there – it’s a real celebration of musical theatre at its best. This updated, vibrant version of "Annie Get Your Gun" promises sharp comedy, glorious music, and a fresh twist on a golden-age classic."
