The clouds parted over Huxley C.E. Primary School

Whatever the weather, there are smiles all round at Huxley C.E. Primary School. Not long ago the small band of children holding the fort were wondering how long their school would still be there. Today their patience is rewarded.

Just come to the school gates at drop off time and you’ll understand. Wait for the bus to arrive, bringing a band of excited children, meeting their other friends dropped off by their parents. No hugs – Covid oblige – but smiles and laughter and happy chatter all round.

Then they rush in to see their teachers, two of whom recently joined the team. The school is growing so fast: 20 children already on roll, according to Mrs Davies, the current Headteacher, soon herself to move on to lead two new schools as Executive Head.

The School Governors say we are on track to reach the required pupil numbers and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. The effort continues and the School looks forward excitedly to meet their new Head, Mrs Rachel Gourley, who cannot wait to take up her post in September. Plans are made and the work by the Staff, the PTA, the Governors and devoted members of the community continues, to ensure that Huxley C.E. Primary School becomes the place of learning, joy, energy and excellence that it was meant to be. Exciting events will mark the re-birth of Huxley School: the first to put in your diary: the School Fete on July 17.

In the meantime, school goes on. Weather permitting – and there are some beautiful sunny days - activities take place in the lovely grounds of the school. The children are becoming amateur market gardeners, with their own vegetable patch; planting wild flowers, making dens which are rain proof: survival is the name of the game. When it rains, learning to cook healthy dishes, with accurate measurements; building a skeleton to learn the human body; so many activities to apply their class learning
