Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) has launched a brand-new website for World Mental Health Day (10 October) this year.
People in West and Central Cheshire can now refer themselves for NHS Talking Therapies by logging on to www.talkingtherapies.cwp.nhs.uk.The website is a one-stop-shop for people to refer themselves for support for common mental health issues including, anxiety and depression.
The launch of the website coincides with World Mental Health Day – an annual opportunity to raise awareness around the issues associated with mental health. The Mental Health Foundation theme for this year’s event is “mental health is a universal human right”.
CWP chief executive, Tim Welch, said:
“We are proud to, once again, be supporting World Mental Health Day at CWP. Every year the event gets bigger and bigger, reflecting changing attitudes towards mental health in wider society. However, we know there is still work to do to get more people talking about their mental health ensuring we as health providers support our communities by providing the right care, at the right time in the right place.
“Today, we are excited to be launching a new website for our Talking Therapies service which we hope will make it easier for local people to get early mental health support. Reaching out for help can be a difficult first step – so we hope to make it as simple as possible and are bringing new technologies on board like ‘chat bots’ for people who would prefer to contact us this way. Just like with physical health concerns, early intervention is key.”
Talking therapies are effective and confidential treatments delivered by fully trained and accredited NHS practitioners. They can help with common mental health problems like stress, anxiety, depression, low mood and support people with long term conditions.
However, it is important to note that other mental health support options are available in our local area. If a person's mental health deteriorates quickly and severely, this can be called a mental health crisis. It can be important to access support quickly. CWP’s 24/7 all-age urgent mental health crisis line is available to call on freephone 0800 145 6485.
In addition, if a person feels they are experiencing a mental health crisis or is in emotional distress – Café 71, a Chester-based Crisis Café may be the best option. It offers a welcoming environment to visitors and a safe space to connect with others experiencing similar issues. It is open 10am-10pm and can be contacted on 01244 393139.
Alternatively, the Shout Text messaging services offers support to those who don’t wish to talk to anyone – but would rather text.
Text “Blue” to 85258 to start a text conversation with a trained volunteer who will provide free, confidential support.
Tim continues:
“Helping to improve the lives of everyone in our communities is our Trust vision. Offering expert, compassionate mental health support to local people is the best way we can do this. To anyone who is feeling like they are struggling and who need emotional support – we are here for you. You are not alone and there are locally based professionals who can provide the support that you need.
“There is no one-size fits all approach to mental health – but with the options available you can find the right support for you and your needs. Please do reach out if you feel you need help.”
