STORYHOUSE SET TO HOST PREMIERE OF CHESTER PLAYWRIGHT'S LIVERPOOL BLITZ PLAY

As Remembrance weekend approaches, the curtain is set to rise on the premiere of a play which tells the story of a Liverpool family torn apart by the Blitz during WW2.

All proceeds from the production are set to benefit a major United Nations Refugee charity.

"WAITING", the latest full length stage play from the pen of Chester based playwright Gail Young, premieres at The Garret theatre at Storyhouse in Chester on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th November at 7.30pm and Saturday 11th November at 2pm and 7.30pm.  Produced by Gail Young Productions, the play will be directed by local award winning Director Yvette Owen.

Based loosely on Gail's own family history, "WAITING" tells the story of a city struggling with the challenges and heartache that WW2 and the Liverpool blitz bring. The Wright family is ripped apart, and there is a growing feeling of helplessness in the face of an approaching enemy. Loved ones are parted by the call to arms, children are evacuated to the safety of rural Wales and, as time passes, they wait, wait for letters from their beloved children, wait for news of a son, a brother, and a sweetheart now fighting for King and Country. They wait for instructions from the Government, wait for the sirens to sound and the bombs to fall.

The play features a talented cast of young actors who will be joined by singers from Chester Operatic Society and Chester based musicians as they bring the story of the Wright family to life. The play also includes the use of digital imagery and some filmed scenes, adding an extra dimension to the dramatic and lively production.

Speaking about seeing her script for "WAITING" being brought to life, Gail said:

"The cast, musicians, crew and director have all worked hard to fully interpret my script - and I can't thank them enough for the effort, talent and time they have given to bringing the words and vision on the page to life in the characterisations, atmospherics, costumes and set for the premiere of "WAITING". I can't wait to see it all come together, and to hear the audience reactions to the show.

Gail added:

"All profits from our ticket sales for "WAITING" are being donated to UNHCR (United Nations Commissioner For Refugees) to support families worldwide who have also been forced to flee from war and conflict. The charity aims to provide the essentials needed to survive - shelter/food/water/healthcare and protection. It relies totally on charitable donations to help achieve those aims, and we are proud to be able support UNHCR in this way".
