Road closure at the Old Dee Bridge in Chester

The Old Dee Bridge in Chester will be closed from Monday 19th February while works take place on its traffic signals.

Cheshire West and Chester Council will be replacing the traffic lights on the Bridge as they have reached the end of their operational lifespan and are in urgent need of replacement.

The work is scheduled to take around 12 days and a diversion will be in place.

To reduce future network disruption, the Council’s Highways Service will be using the closure to re-surface both the carriageway and footway across Old Dee Bridge at the same time.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Highways, Councillor Karen Shore said:

“As the Bridge is a scheduled monument, Historic England has been consulted about the works and provided scheduled monument consent to replace the existing traffic lights with low energy replacements, and for us to also undertake the resurfacing works.”

To ensure safety during these works, Old Dee Bridge will need to be closed to vehicles for the full duration of the works.

Councillor Shore added: “We are currently working with our Highways contractor to finalise the work program. There may be periods of time when the bridge will also be closed to cyclists and pedestrians. If this is needed, times will be publicised in the coming weeks through our website and social media channels.

“Any impacts on the local road network will be kept to a minimum to avoid inconvenience caused by these essential works.”
