Chester Football Club’s collective heart is broken as they announce the sad passing of Club President Barrie Hipkiss.
Barrie, who has devoted 60 years of service to his beloved football club, passed away peacefully yesterday aged 85, following a long battle with illness.
A lifelong supporter of the Blues, Barrie started watching his team in 1946, and, together with his wife Pam, their lives have been dedicated to the club.
For more than half a century, the Hipkiss family have been synonymous with our football club.
Barrie was liked, respected and trusted by everyone: from chairmen to secretaries, to managers, players, and fans.
His incredible contribution includes serving as Chairman of the Official Supporters’ Club, organising the Away Travel Club for four decades, and acting as matchday coordinator at the Deva Stadium. Over the years, Barrie and Pam also provided accommodation for countless players, welcoming them into their home.
Barrie’s dedication has been shared with his family, with Pam providing hospitality for visiting directors and guests in the boardroom, their daughters, Jane and Julia, volunteering countless hours alongside their dad to ensure the smooth running of matchdays, and their son, John, working as an assistant groundsman in years gone by.
In 2022, the South Stand at the Deva Stadium was renamed The Hipkiss Stand in recognition of their outstanding work over the years.
Barrie is, quite simply put, a Chester legend. We were all proud to call him our friend, and we will all miss him dearly.
We’re sending all our love to the entire Hipkiss family.
We will never forget you, Barrie. Rest In Peace.
A book of condolence will be available to sign at the stadium from Tuesday 7th May in the office.
