New Superintendent takes the reins in the Western area

A new Superintendent has taken over as commander of the western area of Cheshire Constabulary.

Mike Ankers joined Cheshire Constabulary in 1995 and has spent the majority of his service working on the West.

Most of his time in force has been in Detective roles on the area’s pro-active teams from Detective Constable and Detective Sergeant to Detective Inspector.

In 2018, he was seconded to the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit where he worked as the regional director of intelligence, before returning to Cheshire in June 2020, when he took over as the Local Policing Commander for Chester.

After a short move away in January 2023 he returned on promotion to take over from Superintendent Gareth Wrigley as the Area commander.

Superintendent Mike Ankers said:

“I would like to thank Gareth for all his work within Cheshire West, and I am confident that he leaves us in a good position moving forward.

“We have a strong team of officers here in the Western area who work closely with our partner agencies, enabling us to work together to provide long term solutions to issues which affect our communities.

“As part of my new role I want to build on the foundations already in place and will use my experience to take the fight against those that pray on our most vulnerable, making Cheshire a hostile environment for criminals while safeguarding our communities.

“I am completely invested in my commitment to residents as I was born and bred in Cheshire and my family live here. I have strong connections in the community and aim to put residents first to ensure that Cheshire West is a safe environment for all to live, work and visit.”
