Murder Investigation Launched in Ellesmere Port

Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Ellesmere Port.

At around 3.15am on Saturday 2 May officers attended an address at Blakemere Court after concerns were raised for the welfare of a person at the property.

Once inside, they discovered a man with serious injuries.

The officers administered first aid and paramedics were called to the address to assist but, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the man sadly died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not yet taken place. 

A post mortem was carried out today (Sunday 3 May) and the results confirmed that the man died of multiple injuries.

A murder investigation has been launched and detectives are appealing to the public for information.

Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson, who is leading the investigation, said:  “I would like to reassure the local community we are doing everything we can to establish exactly what has happened and, at this stage, it appears to be an isolated incident.

“A team of detectives – assisted by local neighbourhood officers and search trained officers – are currently carrying out a number of enquiries in and around the area.  These include house-to-house enquiries, forensic enquiries and CCTV enquiries.

“We have already spoken to a number of people as our investigation continues but I would ask anyone who has not yet spoken to an officer or come forward with information to get in touch.

“I’m particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Saturday 2 May and may have seen or heard something suspicious - even the smallest piece of information can be useful in piecing together a case.”

A 22-year-old man from Ellesmere Port, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on 2 May, remains in custody at this time assisting police with their enquiries.

Chief Inspector Gary Smith, from Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit, said:  “There is a lot of police activity in the area and I appreciate that this may cause concern within the local community.  I want to reassure all those living locally that officers will remain in the area over the coming days as part of the ongoing investigation and to provide reassurance and if you have any issues or concerns please speak to an officer.”
