MATCH REPORT - CURZON ASHTON 0 - 1 CHESTER FC

Chester FC made it a sensational six wins on the bounce, with a late victory in front of a massive away following at Curzon Ashton.

George Glendon struck on 84 minutes to seal the victory – which made it goals in successive matches for the Skipper – and moved the Blues into the top seven.

For the second successive match, Calum McIntyre made one change to his side.

Harrison Burke replaced Liam Edwards in the starting line up – as Kieron Coates returned from injury to make the bench in place of Ollie Heywood.

Curzon made a bright start and were almost ahead, but for the efforts of Wyll Stanway. The Blues ‘keeper did superbly to get across and claw Will Hayhurst’s free kick on to the crossbar and then gather the loose ball.

Chester answered back on 13 minutes. Joel Taylor’s overlap was found by Elliott Whitehouse, and his cross was met by the head of Adam Thomas and the ball bounced just wide of the far post.

The remainder of the shots mainly came from distance and landed off target as the half progressed – as Weeks on two occasions failed to test Josh Ollerenshaw – and at the other end ex-Blue Alex Kenyon blazed over the bar.

The Seals were presented with a good opportunity on 41 minutes, as Whitehouse’s shot deflected kindly into the path of Thomas inside the area who had a yard of space, but he shot over the crossbar.

Chester came out on the front foot to start the second half and after a flurry of corners a low cross from Thomas couldn’t quite be poked home by Peers and sub Coates.

At the other end James Spencer met Craig Mahon’s cross with his head but it looped over just shy of the hour mark.

Chester continued to press but Curzon were a threat on the counter. After patient play, Weeks hit one on 68 minutes which bounced awkwardly and forced Ollerenshaw to claw the ball behind with his left hand.

A Jordan Richards free kick into the box on 71 minutes was met by the unmarked sub Stefan Mols, but he nodded straight at Stanway.

Another Chester scramble ensued with Sparrow was released down the right, his cutback found Glendon who saw his shot deflect against the post, Thomas’ volley looped up and was headed off the line before Peers’ prod was stopped by Ollerenshaw.

The winner came with six to play as sub Iwan Murray made a big impact off the bench to slide a great ball through for Thomas, he cut it back and Glendon was there to convert from close range to secure a massive victory.
