Match Report - Chester FC 0 - 1 York City

Chester went down one-nil to playoff hopefuls York yesterday evening at the Deva Stadium.

Lenell John-Lewis’ sixty fourth minute sidefooted finish separated the two sides in a scrappy affair.

Steve Watson made two changes from the side that beat Farsley one-nil on Saturday as Marcus Dackers and David Fitzpatrick returned to the starting line-up, in place of Anthony Dudley and Zack Clarke.

Chester started the game brightly, moving the ball well and creating an opening down the left side as Darren Stephenson found Matty Williams, but he couldn’t keep his effort down.

York began to grow into the game and created a couple of openings of their own, first through Kouhyar, curling an effort wide from the edge of the penalty area before John-Lewis’ met a cross but Stanway made a good save.

Stanway had to be alert again as John-Lewis intercepted a header to the Blues’ ‘keeper but Stanway was able to make the block.

The Blues had a huge opportunity to open the scoring as Dackers headed the ball back across goal but Harrison Burke’s effort was blocked as the penalty appeal was waved away.

As half time approached the chances kept coming at either end as George Glendon’s corner picked out Dackers, but his header couldn’t trouble Pete Jameson. At the other end Mitch Hancox fired from range but Stanway held well to ensure it was goalless at the break.

The visitors forged the first chance of the second half as Hancox again shot from range but couldn’t hit the target. Ten minutes later and Hancox tried again, this time seeing his effort deflected wide for a corner.

York did make the breakthrough shortly after the hour as Lenell John-Lewis got free in the Chester area and sidefooted beyond Stanway.

Chester looked for a way back into the game and created a chance as Apter pulled one back but Dackers fired over. York went straight down the other end though and forced Stanway into another save, this time from Kouhyar.

In the end the Blues couldn’t find an equaliser, seeing a late penalty appeal turned down, and the visitors walked away with the three points.
