It was a frustrating night for Chester FC, at the Leap76 stadium, as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to a spirited Buxton side.
It was a fast start for the visitors as they led with less than two minutes on the clock. A swift break resulted in Tom Elliott finding Sam Osbourne who set himself before sweeping the ball goalward and the finish proved too accurate for Wyll Stanway to keep out.
Chester looked for a quick response. A floated corner from Declan Weeks was met by Harrison Burke who had evaded his marker but the defender could only improvise an effort wide of the post.
The search for an equaliser continued when Iwan Murray picked up the ball in the final third and drove with purpose. The midfielder was looking to add to his goal last weekend against Gloucester but his shot was wayward of the post.
The away side nearly doubled their lead after yet another counter-attack. Elliot again was the architect playing through the lively Dylan Mottley-Henry who tested Stanway and forced a smart stop from the 22-year-old.
Throughout the remainder of the first half the Seals had the lion share of the possession but couldn’t generate any clear-cut chances.
The second half was full of frustration for Calum McIntyre’s men, despite dominating the ball the final bit of quality proved elusive.
A huge shout from a home crowd of 1,612 for a penalty was waved away by referee Benjamin Tomlinson after George Glendon was bundled down inside the 18-yard box.
The away side managed the closing stages of the game commendably. The Bucks take three points back to Derbyshire and rise up to 15th in the division.
A tough defeat for Chester to take after a performance that left a lot to be desired. The Seals remain in ninth failing to build on the momentum from the victory last weekend.
