MATCH REPORT: CHESTER FC 0 - 0 CHORLEY

Chester FC picked up their first draw of the season, as it ended goal-less with Chorley for the third successive time between the sides.

Calum McIntyre made one change from the weekend victory, as he was able to welcome back to Declan Weeks to the Starting XI in place of Lewis Earl.

Earl dropped to the bench and was joined by Jake Burton who returned to the squad following injury.

Chester started the brighter of the sides and nearly had an opener on eight minutes. Weeks found Zak Goodson, who scored on Saturday, but on this occasion the forward curled over the bar.

At the other end, Chorley nearly had the lead on 18 minutes when Billy Whitehouse’s cross deflected awkwardly off the legs of his namesake Elliott and crept inches wide.

Iwan Murray, so impressive over the weekend, had an opening midway through the half as Kieran Coates found him with a low cross – however he sliced his volley well over.

Chorley went ever so close moments later as Whitehouse played through Carlton Ubaezuonu, he rifled his effort on target and under Wyll Stanway – but Harrison Burke was back to brilliantly block on the line.

Joel Taylor showed great bravery to win a 50/50 challenge and play in Kieran Coates just after the half hour mark, the full back seeing his eventual effort drift wide of the post.

Kole Hall had the final chance of a fairly entertaining opening 45 as he rose well to meet a Coates cross – however it was straight at Urwin.

The head of Hall went close again on 57 minutes, meeting a near post Murray corner, but saw his effort strike the outside of the post.

Chorley nearly had the lead just after as a long ball into the box was spilled by Stanway as he collided with Burke, however Liam Edwards was positioned just right to deflect Jack Sampson’s effort over the crossbar.

Back down the other end, Goodson spun well from a George Glendon pass and bulleted one just over the crossbar – before Elliott Whitehouse whipped a free kick inches wide of the goal.

Hall then made himself an opportunity with some great trickery up against the two defenders, forcing Urwin into a strong low save.

The final effort came to Murray deep into stoppage time as he went low from range, seeing his shot fly just the wrong side of the post as it ended all square.
