MATCH PREVIEW: NANTWICH TOWN v CHESTER FC WOMEN'S TEAM

Chester FC Women return to action this weekend, as they travel away to face Nantwich Town Ladies in the First Round Qualifying of The Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

The Blues have endured a mixed start to their league campaign this season, recording two wins and two defeats from their opening four games played.

Martin Fitzsimons’ side come into this weekend’s FA Cup clash on the back of a 4-3 home defeat to Wythenshawe Women. Having led at two different stages of the game Chester were made to pay for missed chances, with Wythenshawe finding a winner deep into injury time to end the seven goal thriller.

The Seals exited last year’s competition at the 2nd round qualifying stage, following a 3-1 defeat away at Premier Division side Blackburn Community Sports.

Nantwich Town also exited the competition early last season, falling at the first hurdle and crashing out at the first qualifying round following defeat to Clitheroe Wolves.

The Dabbers come into Sunday’s game on the back of winning their final pre-season game 5-3 against Egerton Women, with them due to kick off their league campaign a week on Sunday away to Macclesfield Town Ladies.

STAT ATTACK:

● The two sides have previously met this calendar year in the 2nd round of The Cheshire County Cup, with Chester recording a 4-1 away win.

● Sunday’s game will mark club history for Nantwich Town, with it being their ever home tie in The Women’s FA Cup.

MANAGER'S THOUGHTS:

“Last weekend was a tough one to take. Games like that are always emotional and a great advert for football at this level. We felt we were good value for at least a point. A few decisions didn’t go our way and they sometimes can be the difference between winning and losing.

“That said, I think everyone their saw a team that they can be proud of. Everything you want from a Chester player was show out on the pitch.

“The FA Cup has a reputation and we’re honoured to be a part of it. It comes with a bit of pressure as there’s prize money involved but we’ll look to take that in our stride. This weekend we need that same level of commitment to come out of the game with a positive result.”
