MATCH PREVIEW: CHESTER FC WOMEN v WYTHENSHAWE

Chester FC Women return to the Leap76 Stadium this weekend, as they host Wythenshawe Women who are chasing a third consecutive league victory in a row.

The Blues made it two wins on the spin in the league on Wednesday night following a thoroughly deserved 2-0 away win at Litherland Remyca Women.

A goal in each half from striker Emma Gray ensured Chester took all three points back to CH1 and finished the night in 4th place in the table.

Chester once more look set to be backed by a bumper crowd on Sunday afternoon, the previous home game saw over 160 attend the 3-1 win over Ellesmere Port. With the current record standing at 240, Seals boss Martin Fitzsimons has set his sights on smashing the record this season.

Sunday’s opponents Wythenshawe Women come into this weekend’s game in fine form, the side have recorded maximum points from their opening two games in the league.

On the back of a 3-1 home victory against Poulton Vics, Wythenshawe recorded an emphatic 11-0 victory on the road against Altrincham on Wednesday night. The Manchester outfit currently sit one place above Chester in 3rd place in the table having played one game fewer, but with s far superior goal difference.

MATCH DETAILS:

Kick off is 2pm on Sunday afternoon at the Leap76 Stadium, CH1 4LT.

Entry to the game is either via your CFCW Season Ticket which can be scanned, or payment via contactless at the gate.

The Cestrian Bar will be open prior to kick off and one kiosk in the Main Stand will be open for food and drink throughout.

STAT ATTACK:

• Chester’s last competitive defeat at the Leap76 Stadium came against Salford City Lionesses in August 2021.
• The Seals recorded an emphatic 8-1 victory when the two sides last met, a game that saw them 7-0 up at half time.

MANAGER THOUGHTS:

“Midweek against Litherland, we weren’t at our best. However we saw a grit and determination that we hadn’t seen before and settled into the game. We managed our frustrations and channelled them into what was needed to get the result.

“We’re looking forward to Sunday against Wythenshawe. We know that if one things for sure it will be a completely different game to last year.

“They’ve had a lot of investment which has led to them becoming a semi professional outfit. But as always we’ve got faith in our abilities and will go out there to cause an upset.

“This group of players in capable of big performances and results, and with some big support at the Leap76 Stadium, anything is possible.”
