Man charged in relation to death of Ellesmere Port woman

Detectives investigating the death of Jennifer Smith in Ellesmere Port have charged a man with her manslaughter.

On Thursday 1st June 2023, 38-year-old Jennifer was sadly found deceased at an address in Birch Grove in Ellesmere Port.

Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service we have today, Thursday 4th December 2025, charged Peter Scargill with Manslaughter, Stalking involving serious alarm and distress and blackmail.

The 48-year-old of Cherry Road, Chester is set to appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court later today, Thursday 4th December 2025.

Cheshire Constabulary and the Crown Prosecution Service remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr Scargill are now active and that he has a right to a fair trial.

It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
