Man arrested following convenience store robbery in Ellesmere Port

Detectives investigating a robbery in Ellesmere Port have arrested a 40-year-old man from the town.

He is currently in custody being questioned by officers about the incident at a convenience store on Old Chester Road in Great Sutton.

A man holding a screwdriver demanded cash from a woman working behind the counter shortly after 7am on Tuesday 12 January.

He then stole a quantity of cash from the tills and fled the store.

Detective Inspector Nigel Parr, of Ellesmere Port Local Policing Unit, said: “The store worker was subjected to a frightening ordeal that has understandably left her shaken up.

“I would like to reassure members of the community that we are determined to establish who committed the robbery and bring him to justice.

“We have been conducting an extensive investigation into the incident, carrying out a range of enquiries.

“This has culminated in the arrest of a 40-year-old man on suspicion of robbery in relation to the incident.

“He is currently in custody helping with our enquiries.”
