Polling cards for the local council election on 2 May are now arriving at homes across the borough.
Now is the time to check that you are registered to vote at your current address. If you have moved house since the last election, changed your name or nationality, or have turned 18 recently, you may not be properly registered – and you may not have received a polling card.
Returning Officer Andrew Lewis said: We don’t want anyone to lose their vote. If you need to check whether you are registered, please contact the Council.
This year it is also very important that you check your polling card when it arrives to see if your ward and polling station has changed. There was a boundary review in 2018 and wards and polling stations have changed for a lot of people. We don’t want anyone to travel to their former polling station in error on election day.
If anyone finds it difficult to get to their new polling station, please apply for a postal vote. It’s a very convenient option and you don’t need a reason to apply.”
Residents can apply for a postal vote when they register to vote, or, if you are already registered, you can call 0300 123 8123 or email email@example.com to request an application, or visitcheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/election2019 to download a form. Residents can also contact the Council to check if they are registered or to notify us if they haven’t received their poll card by 1 April.
Everyone should make sure they are registered to vote at their current address, regardless of an upcoming election. This way they can make sure they are counted in any snap general elections or referendums that can be called at any time.
