Samantha Dixon, MP for Chester North and Neston, welcomed local residents to a warm and welcoming coffee morning to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event, held at The Centurion, brought together the community for a relaxed morning of conversation, reflection, and appreciation of the remarkable contributions of women past and present in the local area.
The morning featured a special introduction by Isabel from the Women of Chester Tour and the Chester Tourist Information Centre. Isabel inspired everyone who came along with stories of some of the extraordinary women who have shaped the history of the area. These stories not only honoured the past but reminded everyone of the ongoing importance of women’s achievements and their continued impact on our community.
Following the event, Samantha Dixon MP said:
“It was wonderful to see so many people come together to celebrate International Women’s Day in such a relaxed and positive atmosphere. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, Isabel for her incredible storytelling – she really brought Chester’s history to life and reminded us all of the important women who helped shape this city. I’d also like to extend my thanks to Keiron for the delicious cakes, which were enjoyed by everyone!”
The coffee morning was an opportunity for residents to come together, connect, have a cuppa, and engage in open conversations about how we can continue to support gender equality and women’s rights in our community.
Samantha added by highlight the ongoing work of the Labour Government to advance women's rights:
“I’m pleased to be part of a Government that is delivering for women. From halving violence against women and girls and strengthening women’s rights at work through the Employment Rights Act to closing the gender pay gap and expanding access to affordable childcare, there is still more work to be done, but we are moving in the right direction. The weekend’s event reminded me just how much we can achieve when we support each other, and I’m excited to see how we can continue to build on that in the future."
The coffee morning was a wonderful reminder of the power of community and the importance of celebrating women’s contributions at all levels. As the event wrapped up, it was clear that the sense of unity and support would carry on long after International Women’s Day.
