Launch of Climate Emergency Inspire platform

An engagement hub named ‘Climate Emergency Inspire’ has been launched to promote environmental work and projects within the borough.

The site launched to the public today (26 October), just under a week before the COP26 summit takes place.

Members of the public, groups, and businesses have been asked to share what they are doing locally to help reduce carbon emissions and improve the natural environment.

Allied to its ongoing commitment to tackle carbon emissions, the Council wants to highlight the many local groups and individuals playing their part to make their communities greener and better places to live.

Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “We all have a part to play in shaping a greener future and Inspire is an opportunity to share stories about tackling climate change. Schools, businesses, community groups, town and parish councils, and our residents are all vital to shaping the borough’s long-term greener future.

“The Council’s own Climate Emergency Response Plan sets out how the borough can become carbon neutral by 2045. Inspire will support this plan by showcasing the wealth of positive environmental action already taking place in the borough and, in turn, inspiring others to get involved.”

Inspire allows people’s stories to be told through a variety of mediums including written content, image galleries, videos, and blogs.

In addition to user-generated content, Inspire’s pages will also include press releases and case studies about what the Council and its partners are doing to tackle the Climate Emergency.

Embedded within the site are links to specific Council directives and pledges relating to the Climate Emergency, and a ‘Key Dates’ section to inspire people’s next green-thinking project.

Useful information about the Climate Emergency response is also featured, along with sections on how to reduce your own carbon emissions, and easy-to-understand guides explaining events like COP26.

Plans are in place to continue to use Inspire to engage residents and businesses on this agenda throughout the year.
