Joint operation takes place in Neston as part of Share The Road

A joint operation has taken place in Neston to educate people on how to safely share the road, regardless of their mode of transport.

On Saturday 23 September, an operation between Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service took place to educate riders and drivers about how to safely pass each other while sharing the road.

Roads and Crime Unit officers were joined by Neston and Parkgate officers and Special Constables.

Covert officers on pedal cycles were able to identify drivers who passed too close to cyclists, while officers on foot spoke to riders about safer riding techniques.

More than 100 people were spoken to, including 65 riders, 35 pedestrians, and eight drivers.

They were given advice and more information about the day’s main message of #ShareTheRoad.

The ‘Share The Road’ safety campaign first launched back in 2021, calling on the public to be kind and considerate to each other and help keep each other safe on the roads.

It aims to raise awareness that all road users have the right to use the roads safely, regardless of how they travel on it.

PC Lee Spencer of Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit said:

“It’s really important that everyone is aware of how to use Cheshire’s roads safely, to keep not only themselves safe, but also others.

“Saturday saw officers speak to more than 100 people, including riders, pedestrians, and drivers, about how to pass each other safely and offer advice on safer riding techniques.

“We all have a responsibility to each other while out on the county’s roads, and I hope our operation helps drive home the message that we should all be able to share the road in the safest way possible.”
