Join the quest to set a Guinness World Record in Chester this Summer

You can be part of the largest global effort this month to set the Guinness World Records title for the most people pledging climate action in one month.

Eco Communities is working with Cheshire West Voluntary Action (CWVA) to calculate the carbon footprint of Cheshire West and Chester’s residents and work out how much this has changed using Giki Zero. Giki Zero is a simple online tool to help people make changes to reduce the impact they have on the environment.

Giki has partnered with Count Us In, the Round Britain Climate Challenge, and Sacha Dench, UN Ambassador for Migratory Species, in this record-breaking adventure to inspire 140,001 people to pledge to take climate action in one month.

The task is massive in impact but very simple in practice as every person committing to take climate action through Giki Zero or any of Count Us In’s partner platforms between 18 June and 17 July counts towards this effort.

Sacha set off on the first ever Round Britain Climate Challenge by electric paramotor from the Glasgow Science Centre on the 18th June. This daring expedition is designed to inspire and excite the nation to get involved in tackling the climate crisis in the run up to COP26. We are hoping Sacha will be able to swing by Chester on her travels.

In Cheshire West and Chester, residents can use Eco Communities’ Giki account to take part in this challenge, and if successful, every person who takes a step will get a climate champion badge they can proudly sport on their social media channels.

CWVA is providing an opportunity for 30 people to take part in a nine-week supported programme, using the Giki Zero Pro platform over that period to measure their carbon footprint. Plenty of support will be available throughout and you’ll be able to chat with other people taking part in the project.

While this project is targeted at individuals and the personal choices you make, CWVA and Eco Communities are looking to support people who work in the community sector so they can take any lessons learned back to the organisations they work for. You need to be a CWVA member to get involved in this part of the project.

An online session is taking place from noon until 1pm on Tuesday 29 June so people can get involved with the supported programme and find out more about how they can start measuring their carbon footprint.
