Help people live independently in the community by donating equipment

Cheshire West and Chester Council is calling for anyone with community equipment they no longer need to return it so it can be reused.

The Council is helping make sure any of this unwanted equipment can be reused to support people to live independently for longer in their own homes in the community.

Any equipment will be marked with a sticker and cleaned and prepared for reuse, reducing the need to buy new equipment in future.

Items that can be returned and reused include the following.

  • Hospital beds and hoists
  • Walking frames
  • Commodes
  • Toilet surrounds
  • Shower seats
  • Bed transfer aids
  • Crutches
  • Furniture raisers

Councillor Sheila Little, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said:

“There are a number of items of community equipment that are no longer needed and possibly sitting unused in people’s homes.

“Loved ones of those who’ve previously used this equipment might not be aware that it has been loaned by the Council or the NHS, or some of this equipment might’ve been taken to waste recycling centres when it could be reused to help someone else.

“We would love to see any community equipment no longer being used returned to us so someone else can benefit from it.

“This will have the added bonus of saving money that would otherwise have to be spent on purchasing new equipment.”

Anyone wanting to donate community equipment in the Cheshire area can ask for it to be collected.
