GIRL-GUIDING GROUP SUPPORTED BY HOUSEBUILDER

A Saltney-based Brownies unit has had help towards its running costs to ensure rising prices aren’t passed onto families.

Based at Saltney Church Hall, St Mark’s Brownies has received £500 from Redrow’s Chester community fund, linked with the housebuilder’s Kings Moat Garden Village development on Wrexham Road.

St Mark’s applied for help towards general running costs such as rent, equipment and resources for badge activities, plus to help towards the increasing cost for out-of-unit activities.

Unit leader Beth Jones said:

“We welcomes all girls from seven to 10 years old for nonstop fun, learning and adventure. Redrow’s donation means we have been able to mitigate the need to significantly increase our charge for each term. The girls in our pack come from families with varying financial circumstances and with the cost-of-living crisis we are currently in, it is important to us to keep the cost for families to a minimum so no girl misses out on the opportunities and experience Girlguiding provides.”

Girlguiding gives its members opportunities to try new things, such as growing plants, cooking, camping, basic survival skills or bushcraft and going on weekends away with friends.

Beth continued:

“With a helpful hand from our encouraging volunteers and myself, girls can explore their creative side, get out into the great outdoors, and start learning to look after themselves giving them skills they’ll have with them for life.”

Area sales manager for Redrow NW, Amanda Hollins, said:

“Girl-guiding is well known to encourage girls to grow in confidence and to speak up, be creative and challenge issues in the world. They also assist in the wider community so we were more than happy to give St Mark’s Brownies a donation towards running costs.”
