Further funding for flooding victims

Four more community organisations have been awarded funding to help Cheshire residents recover from flooding in the county.

A major incident was declared in Cheshire in January after Storm Christoph caused heavy rainfall and residents in Chester, Northwich, Tattenhall, Winsford and Warrington were evacuated from their homes.

Police and crime commissioner David Keane has awarded emergency funding to groups supporting residents who have been affected with grants of up to £1,000.

The latest groups to benefit are Ashton Hayes and Horton-cum-Peel Parish Council, Pictures to Share, Bollington Mill Management Company and The Hive Live De Bees.

Both Ashton Hayes and Horton-cum-Peel Parish Council and Bollington Mill Management Company will use the funding to provide emergency food and clothing to families who were evacuated from their homes in Northwich and Crewe and have still not been able to return.

Pictures to Share, who publish books for people with dementia, will use its funding to replace vital resources for dementia suffers that were damaged in the flooding in Chester.

Similarly, The Hive Live De Bees’ grant will support the group to carry out a clean-up operation at its entertainment venue in Winsford which provides much-needed community activities.

The four grants recently awarded are in addition to those already handed-out to Pantry for Blacon in Chester and the Roy Humphrey’s Foundation in Warrington who used the funds to provide emergency food and clothing to families affected.

The funding is part of PCC David Keane’s Safer Communities Fund which is funded by money taken from Cheshire criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act (PoCA 2002).

He said: “Even though it’s nearly two months since Cheshire was hit by major flooding, there’s still families feeling the devastating effects.

“At times like these, it’s fantastic to see our communities come together to support those in need and I’m pleased that my Safer Communities Fund can help fund their heroic efforts”
