Cheshire West and Chester Council’s next Landlords Forum will discuss what Government changes to legislation mean in practice for private landlords, as well as issues of fire, health and home safety.

The Landlords Forum will take place at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall on Thursday 24th September 2026. Organised in partnership with the National Residential Landlords Association (NRLA), the Forum is part of the Council’s commitment to working with private sector landlords to help meet housing needs in the borough.

Samantha Watkin from the NRLA will deliver a presentation on the Renters’ Rights Act which came into force on 1 May, discussing what this means for landlords and how the new landlord database will work. There will also be an opportunity to ask Samantha any questions about the latest developments in the sector.

A representative from Cheshire Fire and Rescue will explain everything private landlords need to know to ensure their homes are fully compliant in terms of fire safety.

Officers from the Council will also talk about the revised Housing and Health Safety Rating System and how the Council’s Private Rented Sector Service will carry out inspections.

Cllr Christine Warner, Cabinet Member for Homes and Planning, said:

“Making sure that our residents have safe and good quality homes is a key Council priority, and we recognise how important private landlords are in helping to provide this. Our recently launched Private Rented Sector Service is designed to help landlords, and the Landlords Forum is always a great event to bring local landlords together and discuss the issues facing the sector. This session will be invaluable to private landlords with the opportunity to discuss new legislation and safety requirements with our key speakers from the sector. We will continue to work with the many good landlords in the Borough and take action on those who are not providing safe and well managed homes for our residents.”

The Landlords Forum will take place on Thursday 24 September 2026 at the Civic Suite, Civic Hall, Civic Way, Ellesmere Port CH65 0AZ. The meeting is at 5pm-7pm, with an opportunity for networking from 4.30pm. All private landlords are welcome.
