Event for children to explore nature at Cholmondeley Castle

Fun and interactive days teaching young children about wildlife in Cheshire will be held next week.

The University of Chester’s Department of Biological Sciences is hosting a BioBlitz event at Cholmondeley Castle, near Malpas, on Wednesday and Thursday, August 16 and 17.

This is a free, fun and educational event aimed at primary school aged children. They will learn how to identify the wildlife in their local area in a fun and interactive way.

Children will learn how to identify different wildlife species in their local area by using a range of different field equipment. This will include tree identification, pond dipping, a treasure hunt, butterfly identification and using sound recorders to identify different types of birds.

BioBlitz takes place from 10am to 3pm each day. There is no need to book and participants can just turn up during those times.

Rebecca Turner, Laboratory Manager and Outreach Co-ordinator from the Department of Biological Sciences, said:

“BioBlitz is a great fun opportunity for children to learn more about the world of wildlife that surrounds them. We’d also like to thank the team at Cholmondeley Castle for enabling us to explore the beautiful castle grounds.”
