Eggs-travaganza of events at Council’s museums this Easter

Easter is just around the corner and Cheshire West and Chester Council’s museums have a full programme of fun events planned to keep families entertained during the holidays.

There will be craft activities involving everything from eggs and masks, to grass creatures and cress gardens. 

Exhibitions that bring history to life and inspire young minds will be open throughout the holiday including Speed of Change, which displays hundreds of gadgets we used to use before we had mobile phones. 

A must-see for fashion fans this Easter is Grosvenor Museum’s fantastic new exhibition, 'Changes in Fashion 1066 - 1980s' on display in the Grosvenor Museum Period House.  The display of over 150 dolls, modelling miniature costumes, handmade by costumier Lisa Jayne Smith, represents changes in fashion through the ages. The exhibition will run until 30 June.

The Chester Photographic Society presents ‘The World as I See It’ where you can vote for your favourite picture and ‘Chester in the English Civil War’ focuses on Civil War objects, curated by third-year archaeology students from the University of Chester.

From 6th April, the millers of Stretton Water Mill once again start up their mill after some winter maintenance and a well-deserved rest.  Come along and meet them as they set the wheels in motion for the first grind of 2024.

During the first week of the holidays you can keep young hands busy using cress and grass to make crazy creatures and gorgeous gardens at the Grosvenor Museum in Chester on 2, 3 and 4 April from 10.30am to 12.30pm.  Visitors to the Lion Salt Works in Northwich can make a mask to welcome Spring on 2 April and 3 April between 11am and 2pm.  At Weaver Hall, visitors can experiment with bouncy eggs and other creations at their Eggy Creation events on 3 April and 4 April, between 10am and 1pm.  All events are free, donations welcome.

During the second week, there will be some mythical creatures created from clay and other materials at the Lion Salt Works on 9, 10 and 11 April, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.  Plus, visitors will be able to make a miniature garden and plant a spring flower at Weaver Hall on 10 April and 11 April, between 10am and 1pm. 

At the Grosvenor Museum visitors will be able to travel through time with toys and see what children used to play with in the past and make their own versions, including peg people inspired by the exhibition of dolls in historical costumes.  The event is taking place on 9, 10 and 11 April, from 10.30 am 12.30pm. Again, all events are free with donations welcome.
