More than 750 Year Six pupils from primary schools across the borough have taken part in this year’s Crucial Crew safety workshops, gaining essential knowledge and skills to help them stay safe and make positive choices.
The programme, coordinated by Child Safety Media in partnership with Cheshire Crime Beat and Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Road Safety team, is designed to raise awareness of key safety issues that are not always fully covered in the classroom.
Delivered through interactive and engaging sessions, pupils explored a range of important topics including road and pedestrian safety, personal safety, online safety, health and wellbeing, and active lifestyles. The workshops encouraged participation through discussion, practical demonstrations and real-life scenarios, helping to bring key messages to life.
Eight local partner organisations supported the event, giving pupils the opportunity to learn directly from professionals. Sessions were delivered by a wide range of agencies including CWP NHS Foundation Trust, Cheshire Magistrates, Cheshire Constabulary, Weaver Vale Housing, VIA, SP Energy Networks and Brio Leisure, who provided first aid training.
A highlight of the programme was the Road Safety Team session, where pupils took part in an engaging, bingo-style activity to reinforce key messages around the Green Cross Code, pedestrian awareness and cycle safety.
This year’s workshops took place in Northwich from 15th to 19th June, with a further event planned in Chester later this year.
Crucial Crew continues to play an important role in helping young people build confidence, understand risks and develop the practical skills they need as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
