Council’s Building Control team achieves full house in Fire Safety assessments

Five members of Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Building Control team have all successfully passed Local Authority Building Control’s (LABC) Fire Safety Specialist assessment.

The assessment has been developed by LABC for experienced surveyors to demonstrate their competence in fire safety in higher risk and complex buildings.

The rigorous process is independently accredited by the Institution of Fire Engineers and a pass in the written exam opens up membership of the Institution for successful candidates.

The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, Councillor Karen Shore said, "I am delighted all five members of the team have passed the fire safety assessment with flying colours – a real full house!

"Fire safety is vital and we want to ensure all buildings where the Council’s Building Control team is involved are safe. Residents in Cheshire West and Chester Council can be confident that our expert team is taking fire safety seriously and are skilled and capable to advise and assist projects both large and small."

Successful participants are given a certificate of competence as a Level 6 LABC Building Control Fire Safety Specialist as well as a licence card.

The Council’s Building Control team gives help and advice on building projects to ensure they meet Building Regulations safely and cost effectively by offering feedback on plans and providing site inspections. The team has excellent local knowledge, is readily available and can offer same day advice; the service is trusted, independent and not for profit.

Only Council Building Control teams have the power to protect homeowners and businesses by checking their building work and, when appropriate, enforcing standards if things go wrong.  Using the tailored support and advice available from the Council’s team from the outset can help make sure this does not happen to your construction project whether domestic or commercial.
