The Council today announced the launch of Triumph Together, an ambitious new care‑led programme designed to support care-experienced young people through mentoring, skills development, and positive community connections
Triumph Together joins volunteer mentors and trainers from all walks of life who will offer their time, skills, and encouragement to help young people gain confidence, develop practical abilities, and build supportive relationships. The programme has been shaped collaboratively, with a steering group made up of one third‑third care leavers to ensure lived experience is at its heart.
Triumph Together offers flexible volunteering opportunities. Mentors and trainers can come from any background, and volunteers with skills such as mechanics, cooking, beauty, tech, or other practical areas are encouraged to get involved - even if they can only commit a few hours.
The programme also empowers care‑experienced young people to step into leadership roles. Training opportunities will be available for those wishing to gain the Young Leader Award, helping them build confidence and leadership skills.
Councillor Adam Langan, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Families said:
“Community support can change the trajectory of a young person’s life, especially for those who have experienced care. The volunteer mentor and trainer roles within Triumph Together are flexible, but their impact is profound. Even a small amount of time, shared skills, or simply being a consistent presence can make a meaningful difference.
“You might feel you have nothing to offer, but you may have exactly what a young person needs. Whether you have a particular skill, life experience, or have been in care yourself, your contribution could help build a young person’s confidence and open new possibilities for their future.”
